About Me

My name is Evan Keane (Dr. Evan Keane in fact, ahem). I’m from Galway, in the west of Ireland. I lived in a town called Claregalway before moving the short distance to Galway city to study at the National University of Ireland, Galway/Olscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh. While there I studied Physics & Astronomy (From Sep. 2002-May 2006).

I grew to like the scientific life and decided that a PhD was definitely for me. I also decided that moving to the UK would be a good idea, as they have good universities and it would be nice to move somewhere new I thought! Before embarking on the PhD I first decided that I would study at Cambridge University for a year. I obtained a “Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics” aka “Part 3” (Sep. 2006-Jun. 2007). This is basically a 1 year masters course – and it is “maths” in a broad sense as most of the subjects I studied would be part of a Physics/Astronomy dept. at other universities (Cambridge is a bit different).

I then did my PhD at the University of Manchester in the School of Physics & Astronomy (Sep. 2007-Sep. 2010, viva: Oct. 2010) where I worked in the Pulsar Group within the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics.

As far as my internet presence is concerned: For work stuff check my JBCA webpage or you could search my name on the NASA ADS service or the ArXiv; I am also on Twitter and Facebook.

Below is a (now old!) picture of myself I took while playing with Photobooth in 2007 (ages ago!).
