About Me
My name is Evan Keane. I’m from Galway, in the west of Ireland. I lived in a town called Claregalway before moving the short distance to Galway city to study at the National University of Ireland, Galway/Olscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh. While there I studied Physics & Astronomy (From Sep. 2002-May 2006, Graduated Oct. 2006).
I grew to like the scientific life and decided that a PhD was definitely for me. I also decided that moving to the UK would be a good idea – they have good universities and it would be nice to move somewhere new I thought! Before embarking on the PhD I first decided that I would study at Cambridge University for a year. I obtained a “Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics” aka “Part 3” (Oct. 2006-Jun. 2007). This is basically a 1 year masters course – and it is “maths” in a broad sense as most of the subjects I studied would be part of a Physics/Astronomy dept. at other universities (Cambridge is a bit different).
I then started my PhD in September 2007 at the University of Manchester in the School of Physics & Astronomy where I work within the Pulsar Group.
As far as my internet presence is concerned: For work stuff check my JBCA webpage; I am also on Facebook and Bebo (although I have no intention of updating my Bebo page – Facebook is a much better bet if you want to get hold of me!)
Below is a picture of myself I took while playing with Photobooth.
